5 foods with healthy fats

Did you know that a healthy body needs high fat foods? High fat, but good fat. Your body needs a certain amount of foods with high “good fats” to function well, regulate metabolism, build muscles and lose excess fat.

Good fats are monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats and omega 3s. Below are 5 key foods that contain good healthy fats and they should be included as part of your daily food intake to keep your body functioning at its peak levels.

Nuts

Nuts are full of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats as well as omega 3s. Nuts are great for your heart and for lowering cholesterol. The traditional image of nuts as fatty foods is not correct as they are invaluable in maintaining health. Nuts such as peanuts are full of vitamin E and minerals.

Seeds

A variety of seeds such as Chia, flax, sunflower are excellent for providing your body with good fats. Seeds do so much more in maintaining health – such as keeping your prostate in check (for males) and the ovaries healthy (females).

Eggs

Contrary to recent beliefs, eggs are actually good for you. Eggs are packed full of vitamins and minerals as well as protein. Eggs contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. They also contain some saturated fats, so eat them in moderation.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is full of good fats, excellent for lowering cholesterol and regulating sugar. Olive oil is great for the heart and you literally “feel good” when you take it regularly. Add to salads once or twice a day.

Avocados

Avocados are a great source of fibre, potassium, vitamins and of course good fats in the form of monounsaturated fats. Add some to your salads daily and you will reap the benefits in the form of better skin, better heart function and improved overall body health.
